It is located six nautical miles (7 mi, 11 km) south of the central business district of Sioux City, just west of Sergeant Bluff. The 4 aviation related exhibits are shown below. Sitting on its own on the far side of the airfield is the rarely photographed A-7K / 81-0073 / HAĪlso located on Sioux City Gateway Airport is the Mid-America Transportation & Aviation Museum. On the far side of the base, away from the ANG ramp is a paintshop which takes in jobs from other USAF / ANG / AFRES units, this puts money back into the local economy, the ANG also lease some grazing grassland on the base to local farmers, quite close to the runways, this also generates income.į-16 being prepared for painting, I do have the serial number somewhere Tailband shot, note the "BAT" logo still present. Note the bat emblem embedded in the tail art, not surprisingly the unit callsign still to this day is "BAT"Ī few shots from the ramp of the resident KC-135R's with the 185th ARW, Iowa ANG KC-135 tail displayed near the Iowa ANG HQ building.ĥ4-2005 / F-100C / HA, named "Schillelagh". It includes the historic aircraft park near the Guard HQ building, a few shots on the ramp, the paint shop on the far side of the base, a lonely A-7 twin stick battle damage frame and a small transport museum also located on the field. Following on from the KC-135 tail that I posted a few days ago, here is a selection of other aircraft displayed on the airfield.
